FolkTale VS Fairy Tale

 

Assalamualaikum, kembali lagi dengan bahan ajar bahasa inggris pada hari ini.

Hari ini kita akan membahas NARRATIVE TEXT. Apa sih NARRATIVE TEXT itu? Narrative Text adalah teks dalam bahasa Inggris yang isinya tentang sebuah cerita. Cerita dalam narrative umumnya fiksi atau khayalan seperti dongeng atau dalam bahasa inggris istilahnya TALE.

Tetapi ada juga cerita yang berdasarkan kisah nyata. Jenis-jenis narrative itu selain dongeng (TALE), bisa berupa : Legenda, Fable, Myth, sci-fiction, cerita pendek,  dan banyak lagi. 

Hari ini kita bahas TALE dulu, oke? Ada 2 TALE yang kita kenal yaitu:

1. FOLKTALE adalah cerita rakyat atau cerita dari zaman dahulu yang keasliannya sendiri masih diragukan karena tidak ada bukti dalam sebuah tulisan atau hasil karya seseorang, dongeng folktale biasanya diceritakan dari mulut ke mulut sejak dahulu hingga hari ini.

Contohnya, cerita Malin Kundang, Sangkuriang, Lutung Kasarung dan sebagainya  Judul-judul cerita tersebut tidak ada penulisnya namun cerita masih dikenang hingga anak-anak zaman sekarang.

2. FAIRYTALE adalah cerita yang tidak nyata atau fantasi dan memiliki unsur imajinasi sangat tinggi dan memiliki setting waktu atau tempat yang sangat tidak biasa. 

contohnya seperti cerita Harry Potter, Cinderella, Beauty and the beast dan banyak lagi.

Narrative text is used to entertain the readers or listener with a story tujuan dari Narrative text hanya untuk menghibur pembaca atau pendengar dengan sebuah cerita. 

Narrative Text ussualy teach the reader morals. Narrative text biasanya mengajarkan tentang pelajaran moral kepada pembaca. Jadi intinya tujuan dari cerita, baik folktale atau fairy tale adalah setiap pembaca harus bisa mengambil hikmah atau pelajaran moral dari cerita tersebut.  

Ada tiga bagian penting Narrative Text (Generic Structure) :

1. ORIENTATION (Isinya tentang pengenalan characters/tokoh, setting tempat atau waktu)

2. COMPLICATION (permasalahan dalam sebuah cerita yang melibatkan tokoh utama)

3. RESOLUTION ( jalan keluar atau solusi dari permasalahan yang bisa atau harus  dipecahkan oleh tokoh dalam sebuah cerita)

Ciri - ciri Narrative Text:

Dalam folktale atau fairytale biasanya diawali dengan kalimat, once upon a time, one day,  a long time ago. long, long time ago... dan sebagainya. Sementara kalimat terakhirnya biasa berakhiran They lived happily ever after.

Characters atau tokoh biasanya dideskripsikan sebagai orang baik dan orang jahat, orang lemah dan orang kuat.

Kata kerja yang digunakan adalah bentuk past tenses atau past continuous tense atau kata kerja lampau.

Contoh kalimat past tense :  

- Woman came to his castle

-The prince became a beast

-The prince didn't like her, dan sebagainya

contoh past continuous tense : 

- Maurice was travelling past the castle

- Belle was staying at the castle 

Contoh Text Narrative:

Fairy Tale:

A long time ago, there was a prince. He was good looking and very rich. he lived in a beautiful castle together with his staff and servants.

Once, on a rainy dark night, a woman came to his castle. She was old and ugly. The prince didn't like her and sent her away. After he sent the woman away, she turned away into a beautiful fairy. She cast a spell over the prince and his castle. The prince became a beast. he was no longer good looking. he looked very ugly instead and all his servants turned into furniture.

One day, an old man named Maurice was travelling past the castle. it was raining so hard that he decided to enter the castle. When the Beast saw him. He captured him.

After some time, Maurice's daughter, Belle, began to worry about him. She started to look for him. Finally she arrived at the castle and she found her father there. She asked the Beast to let her father go, but He refused. Belle, then agreed to stay in the castle so that her father could go home.

While Belle was staying at the castle, The beast slowly changed. She was not mean anymore. Belle began to like him and, in the end they fell in love with each other. Right, after she declared her love for him, the spell was broken. The Beast and his servants became humans again. Then, the Beast and Bellegot married. They lived happily aver after. 

Folk Tale:

Once Upon a time, lived a diligent boy named Malin Kundang. He lived in the seashore with his mother. They were very poor, but they lived quiet and harmonious.

One day, a big ship closed to the beach near their village. They asked peoples to join work in their ship and went to the cross island. Malin Kundang wanted to join with them because he wanted to improve his family’s life. But his mother didn’t permit him. She worried to Malin. Malin still kept his argument… and finally he sailed with the bigship.

Several years later, Malin Kundang succed and he became rich trader. Then, he came to his native village with his beatiful wife, but his wife didn’t know Malin’s real descent. His happy mother quickly approached Malin and brought a plate of village cake, Malin’s Favorite. But Malin didn’t admit that woman as his poor mother, and then he kicked the village cakewhich brought by his mother until scattered.

His mother very broken heart because Malin rebellious to her, who had growth him. Then, his mother cursed Malin became stone.Suddenly, the bigship which Malin’s had was vacillated by a big storm and all of his crewman tossed aside out. Malin realized that was his fault that rebellious his mother. He bowed down and became a stone.
